Why you should never agree to printer updates unless you want to stop using compatible ink or toner cartridges.
Many printers use automatic firmware updates that force you to use the expensive original products rather than cheaper alternatives. This is often an option in your printer software that can be changed or refused. Never agree to firmware updates so that you are able to continue using alternative cartridges.
Firmware updates can lock your printer into only accepting original cartridges, which makes the original maker of your printer lots of money and costs you a packet ! The cartridge you’ve purchased from us is an environmentally friendly low cost alternative to an original cartridge and will provide you with the high print quality that you expect.
Your replacement cartridge is of the highest quality. The company that makes your printer would prefer you to buy a more expensive original cartridge from them. This is how they make so much money !
Possible Pop-Up Messages
This is why certain messages may pop up when you insert a replacement cartridge into your machine. For example:
“This is not a genuine product …… do you wish to continue?”
“Your printer warranty may not cover repairs or service due to the use of non-original cartridges”
“Ink / Toner level indicator will not work as this is not a genuine cartridge… ”
“Warning Ink / Toner low …..”
Never pay any attention to the Ink / Toner level indicator, no matter what type of cartridge you are using. This is because the indicator only counts pages based on an assumption of a 5% coverage of Ink / Toner onto the page and does not accurately measure Ink / Toner levels.
It is not unusual for a customer to buy a replacement cartridge because the Ink / toner level indicator on their printer has told them to do so, even though their current cartridge is still half full! Do not worry because your replacement cartridge is fills to maximum capacity, which means there is more Ink / Toner in it than an original cartridge.
Please continue to use your cartridge (click the ‘OK’ button or hold down the ‘RESUME’ button if required to do so) and only replace it once the print quality starts to deteriorate.
Certain types of Canon printer will require you to press and hold down a button (with a red upside down triangle) on it for a few seconds. A non-original cartridge will not damage your printer and will save you lots of money on your printing costs. So when the time comes for you to purchase a new printer you will have saved hundreds, if not thousands, by sticking with us !
In these difficult economic times we as consumers are on the lookout for the best deals on everything we purchase. As it happened to be, ink cartridges and toner cartridges are on the expensive side. If you are reading this you are most likely keen on finding the right printing solution for your business or home. This article aims to give you tips on different ways to reduce your printer ownership cost without sacrificing the end results.
TIP Number 1 – Choose Your Printer Carefully
One of my first tips is to be very vigilant when you purchase your printer. When you are in the shop trying to find the right printer, at first glance it might seem like a good idea to go for the cheapest one or best looking one. Unfortunately, both of these factors have got nothing to do with how much you will actually spend once you buy the printer. If you bought the printer for around £50 you will soon realise that your printing costs are more expensive than your printer and that they are not economical at all. Of course a lot of it depends on the amount of prints you print per week/month.
Consumers who print couple copies a week here and there might not bother about the efficiency of the printer. However, if you love to print a lot or you are looking for the most sensible printing solution for your office, then I strongly recommend to go for the printers that cost £150 and above. After all you will have the printer for at least 5 years and the investment will save you money on printing cost in the long run.
TIP Number 2 – Cost Per Page is the Key
People are always asking us, “what is the best printer to buy?” “what printer should I buy?” “which printer will save me money?”
Well, it all depends on your needs. A lot of advice online suggests that in order to save on printing cost you have to print in black and white. As It happened to be, compatible black cartridges produce great quality prints, in most cases matching the originals. Other tips suggest that you print in draft mode. If you are going to print in draft mode, then what is the point of purchasing originals? When purchase premium compatible ink cartridges you will save bundles of money by decreasing your cost per page because compatible cartridges have way more ink in them. Cost per page has a lot to do with your printing expenditures, so be sure to find out the exact cost per page of the printer before your buy it, to avoid any nasty surprises in the future.
TIP Number 3 – Buy ink and toner in bulk
Another great way to save is by buying ink/toner cartridges in bulk. The cartridges usually come with couple years expiry date, so there is no reason for you not to buy more cartridges at once. At Inkntoneruk our multi packs and value packs have 5% discount which is a nice way to get all your printer consumables while spending less.
TIP Number 4 – Go for the Compatible Cartridges
Last but by far not least, tip number 4 is “compatible ink and toner cartridges”. I have read an article where the author was saying that original cartridges will save you money. How can you save money by paying more for the printer cartridges and receiving less ink in return? Compatibles could potentially save you a fortune (Read more on Colossal savings on HP toners). If you are stuck with that cheap printer and wondering how to spend less on printing cost – you have two choices. One is to throw the cheap printer away or recycle it and buy a new one, that is better economically.
If you do your research properly chances are you’ll save for many years to come. Another option is to go for compatible cartridges. The latter receives the highest recommendations because it is guaranteed to save you cash instantly and you don’t have to throw your printer away.
Misconceptions about remanufactured ink cartridges
It’s also a common misconception that re-manufactured ink cartridges are not to be used, because they are poor quality and do not work. The fact of the matter is that, it is simply not true and whoever is telling you this, they are ether lying or have no idea what they are talking about. It is easy to babble nonsense after you had one bad experience with compatible ink cartridges but unlike genuine ink cartridges, compatibles are manufactured by many different OEM’s, not to mention amateurs who are pumping ink to the cartridge in their own homes. Compatible ink and toner cartridges at Inkntoneruk print as good as the originals but cost much less. Due to rigorous testing that takes place before cartridges are dispatched you can buy supreme quality ink and toner compatibles with total confidence.
We hope these tips were very useful to you. We encourage you to come back to our Blog each week, where we may post more tips for you in the future!
At Inkntoneruk we are passionate about what we do. We know for a fact that, it is not what you do, but how you do it that matters. That is exactly what today’s post is about – “How do we remanufacture ink cartridges?” So how do we do it? It’s simple, buy the ink, pour it down the empty cartridge and your are ready to print. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as that. It takes skill, patience, appropriate equipment and a lot of testing before remanufactured cartridges can go onto the consumers shelves. In order to explain the ink cartridge recycling process in detail, I have teamed up with a few experts in the world of remanufacturing ink cartridges, Chris and his assistant Josh (pictured below) to guide us through eight remanufacturing stages and to produce a compatible Canon PG-540 Black ink cartridge at the end of it.
It really is a smart move to go for compatible ink cartridges (recycled ink cartridges and remanufactured ink cartridges). To appreciate what it takes to produce a recycled ink cartridge, we figured it would be a good idea to share the remanufacturing process with you. This is a grey area for a lot of consumers and we hope you will find this information useful.
8 Steps to Remanufacture an Ink Cartridge
Step 1 – Weigh the Canon PG-540 ink cartridge
First things first. After we receive a used PG-540 cartridge from you, we have to weigh it first to see which cartridges still have some ink left in them. We separate the cartridges with ink in them and the ones without.
Step 2 – Spin the PG-540 cartridges
The ink cartridges which still had some ink in them have to go through a spinning process for the sponge inside the ink cartridge to dry out. It is slowly being prepared for that all important ink refill. After spinning the cartridges, it is necessary to weigh them again to ensure that all the ink has been removed from the inside of the cartridge.
Step 3 – Spray the Ink Cartridge
In the third stage of ink cartridge remanufacturing, Chris has sprayed the ink cartridges and the cartridge head in order to remove excess ink so the cartridge can communicate properly with the Canon printer. After spraying it, a clip is attached to the PG-540 ink cartridge for extra protection.
Step 4 – Fill the Cartridge with Ink
The fourth stage is where the major magic happens and the ink gets a refill into the clean and empty cartridges using the needles that insert into the cartridges (picture above). Firstly, you have to be extremely careful not to fill too much or too little ink and follow precise cartridge capacity guidelines. Once the ink is in, it is time to weigh them again to ensure that all ink cartridges are the right weight.
Step 5 – Suck the Ink Cartridge
This is a vital part of the process, “sucking” the ink cartridge. All cartridges have to be “sucked” in order for them to start the ink flow, so when you insert it in your printer the ink is ready to be transferred to your printer.
Step 6 – Leave the cartridges for 7 days
Now, the ink cartridges have to sit for a minimum of 7 days, for the ink to sink into the sponge inside the cartridge.
Step 7 – More Testing
After the ink cartridges have been on the shelf for a minimum of 7 days, Chris has to carry out a few printing tasks and also print a couple of test pages to ensure the highest quality prints for your home or office.
Step 8 – Ready To Go
Now the ink cartridges are on the shelf, with the correct labels and ready to dispatch, as soon as the orders comes in.
Bear in mind that this is not the only way to remanufacture cartridges and some cartridges need to boil before they can get a refill and others such as compatible HP Photosmart ink cartridges, compatible Canon Pixma ink cartridges and compatible Epson Stylus ink cartridges go through the remanufacturing process in a factory in China. If you’d like us to refill your cartridges, select your printer model using our quick finder, then if the refill option is available for your cartridge, click on the refill option. After paying for your refill, you’ll get a free post address to send your ink cartridge to us, which we’ll refill and send it back to you shortly. Need Printer Ink – Think Ink‘N‘TonerUK
It is obvious and everyone knows that, the consumers have the freedom to buy whatever they desire. They can buy compatibles like ink cartridges, toner cartridges, fuser units and drum units or the originals. However, the customers have to be aware, that the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) DO NOT want consumers to be purchasing cheaper ink cartridges for the printer that they have spent thousands to develop. Although, this was not the case at least momentarily with Dell. According to Choice Stationery Supplies, the computer technology giant had a PDF on their web titled “Dell Printer and Printer Supplies Environmental Policy” which included the following
“Dell printers do not prevent the use of non manufacture printer supplies ink, toner, drums, rollers, fusers etc. The use of non-Dell printer supplies ink, toner, drums, rollers, fusers, including refill and re-manufactured supplies is a customer’s choice.”
However, the PDF on the Dell’s website was short lived and seems to be removed.
OEMs against Compatibles
The statement from Dell flies in the face of all Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) who are strongly determined to prevent any use of compatible ink or toner cartridges, hence the probable reason why it was taken off.
To an extent, there is threat that compatible products pose to the profits of the OEMs. The quality of compatible cartridges has increased, while the cost price remains much lower, than the original cartridges, making the consumers wonder why should they pay more for similar results.
Recently, OEMs such as Canon, Lexmark, Brother have taken steps to prevent consumers from using compatible cartridges. Canon have patented re manufacturing method, while several OEMs released statements advising the customers against the compatibles. Additionally, most of the OEMs have introduced POP-UPS to hassle consumers if they insert compatible cartridges in their printer. Sometimes, even lying that there is no ink left when the brand new re manufactured cartridge has just been inserted.
Compatibles are good for Environment and Your Wallet
In order to keep the balance on the planet between saving resources and producing new products, it is extremely important that we continue to use compatible ink cartridges and compatible toner cartridges, as well as other compatible consumables. The amount of waste keeps increasing, while resources are limited too. So the next time you have to make a decision between the compatible or original consumables and you decide to go for the re-manufactured one – just know that, not only you are saving enormously on the price but you are also doing the right thing by helping to keep the environment clean while at the same time saving the planets resources. This might not seem like much but when you have 7 billion people on the planet – it all adds up.
Where can I buy high quality Compatible Cartridges?
To purchase the highest quality compatible cartridges or other remanufactured consumables please visit the InknTonerUK website (The links are provided at the top of the article). We have the widest range of printing consumables at the very competitive prices. You would be surprised how much you can save on the compatible ink cartridges and compatible toner cartridges.
The answer is very straight forward. The cheapest ink cartridges are compatible ink cartridges. If, you have never tried compatible ink cartridges, then I strongly recommend you give it a go. If, you have bought them previously and had disappointments, cheer up, because at Ink’N’TonerUK our compatible inks are carefully manufactured and rigorously tested to work specifically for your printer, ensuring highest quality prints for less.
Compatible Ink Cartridge Quality
Admit it, last time you probably bought those compatible ink cartridges from ebay, which were made and sold by some “gizza” who re-manufactures them from his own garage. In addition, if you purchase the compatible ink cartridges from unreliable source, you are doomed to fail and might never want to buy them again. One thing you have to remember is that, there are amateur compatible cartridge suppliers and there are professional compatible cartridge suppliers Ink’n’TonerUK is of course the latter. DO NOT let one or two disappointments ruin your chance to save big cash on your printing needs. It is worth trying this alternative, due to unbelievable savings that you can make on your overall printing costs and in this article I will cover just a few products from a widest range, that are available to you to buy today.
Just take a minute and have a quick look at the prices above. The original Black Epson T0711 costs £9.98, which is decent but, if you look just a bit to the left, you will the the Premium Compatible price and it is only £2.29!!!! That is staggeringly low.
Unseen savings like these are unseen to a regular consumer because, they ether heard rumours that compatibles are bad or had 1 or 2 bad experiences with them and never looked back again. Now, don’t get me wrong, of course the compatible ink cartridge prints are slightly less sharp and you might get an odd faulty cartridge, but most of the time they are perfectly fine and to be honest, there are not much of a difference between the two. In this case, the fact is that the compatibles ink cartridges are four times cheaper and that’s why the EpsonT0711 holds the title of the cheapest ink cartridges.
At the end of the day, it is a choice you have to make whether you want to save lots of money and buy the compatibles but get an odd problem here or there or you can buy the pricier originals and not worry about anything going wrong. The decision is yours.

HP
Last but not least on our list are the HP cheapest ink cartridges. As you can see for these cartridges you even have 3 choices. You can go for the Budget, Premium or the Original ones. Budget cartridges are refilled and we can also refill them for you, if you send in your used ink cartridges to us with our free post (Read more). However the best choice is definitely the premium compatibles as they guarantee the best value for money.
The original HP 300 ink cartridge cost is fair £11.85 but the if you look again to the options available to you more to the left, you’ll discover cheapest ink cartridges at the price of 6.99 for refill and premium. Keep in mind that you also get high capacity ink cartridges because they have maximum ink in them, so not only you paying twice less but you are also receiving twice as much ink in return!!!
Conclusion
Firstly, I will be the first one to say this “the compatibles are not for everyone”. If you have your big business which depends on highest quality prints and you simply cannot afford an odd faulty ink cartridge, or, furthermore, maybe you just simply can’t stand the idea of any problem that would cause the cartridge to be replaced. Then, obviously the compatibles are not for you, but if you are a SOHO user or just print occasionally and you are prepared to be a bit more patient if necessary, then you will be able to take advantage of the cheapest ink cartridges and save huge amounts of money in the long run.

Here at InknTonerUK we always strive to keep ink cartridge and toner cartridge prices to bare minimum and improve our overall customer service whenever possible. That is why, we have introduced new website improvements. The new feature gives our customers wider choice when buying toner cartridges. Previously Ink’n’TonerUK website offered 2 choices, Compatible Toner Cartridges and Original Toner Cartridges, but now our customers have to make a choice out of 3 options, as additional option has been added, called Budget Compatible and the “Compatible Cartridge” has been changed to “Premium Compatible”. This feature is more difficult to implement, than you might think and it is not feasible with every website. Fortunately, our website is designed in a way that, makes this change possible. Now InknTonerUK.co.uk is one of very few, if not the only site that offers Budget Compatible, Premium Compatible and Original Cartridge for the same printer.
For example, if you would select HP Laserjet P4515N printer and look for high capacity black HP 64 toner cartridge. This is what you would be presented with.
As you can see, the Budget Cartridge price is much cheaper. It can actually be even up to 4 or 5 times cheaper, than the Original.
The new feature gives you options, but how do you know which one is the right for you? Well, if you buy toner cartridges from us often, then you might already have noticed the following buttons on the website which explain Budget Refill Cartridge, Premium Compatible Cartridge and Original Compatible Cartridge.
However, to make sure every customer knows what’s best for them, they need to know as much information as possible about the budget, premium and original cartridges. Below, Budget Cartridges, Premium Cartridges and Original Cartridges are explained in more detail.
Budget Compatible
Choosing Budget compatible cartridges, means you will pay rock bottom price for the cartridges. It is advised to purchase budget compatible, when you print a tremendous amount of prints daily and the printing quality is not a priority. Disadvantage of budget compatibles is that it’s non-recyclable and uses cheaper ink, however print quality is still relatively high.
Premium Compatible
Premium compatible option is probably best value for money to choose. It’s cheaper than originals but quality is much better than the budgets. However, it’s still as good as the original.
Original Cartridge
Original cartridge is made by the same company as the printer and guarantees 100% satisfactory results. It is recommended, if you are a bit fussy about print quality and don’t mind spending a little extra.
