Earth Day 2023

Featured

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd since 1970. Its been observed for the last 53 years and contributed to the solving of many environmental issues from the very first time its been organised. Back in 1970, rallies took place across the United States after a US Senator from Wisconsin organised a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues, which in turn formed the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in America by the end of the year. Earth Day is obviously celebrated to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The official theme for 2023 is ‘Invest In Our Planet’. Why is Earth Day so important? How does it connect to the printing industry? How can you celebrate Earth Day?

Earth Day 2023

April 1970

The First Earth Day, in April 1970, was created by Senator Gaylord Nelson – the “Father of Earth Day” – to force the issue of environmental protection onto the national agenda. Back then, there was no EPA, no Clean Air Act, no Clean Water Act, among many other things that are in place today. There were no legal or regulatory mechanisms to protect our environment.

Community efforts such as cleaning up rubbish from neighbourhoods and common areas, planting trees and recycling are all just a few simple ways you can contribute to celebrating Earth Day, and not just annually on April 22nd, but whenever. Today, there is huge pressure building up on governments and society in general, to clean the planet, save it from total environmental destruction before its too late.

How does the Printing Industry tie in?

The printing industry is one of many industries that innovates, recycles and changes the market with new products that don’t contribute negatively to climate change, but instead remains carbon neutral or gives back to nature by reducing CO2 emissions, plastic use and other important things. For example, Canon, for the fifth year, has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers in 2023. Impactful initiatives and environmental responsibility and awareness both contributed to Canon leading in terms of environment. We’d like to congratulate Canon for their efforts to help our planet and keep our environment safe.

How does InknTonerUK contribute to the Environment?

Here, at InknTonerUK, we also try our best to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Our compatible products are recycled and cartridges are reused. April Fools Day 2023 at InknTonerUK!

Featured

As March ends and we get closer to April, we have many events and holidays ahead of us here, in the UK, as well as around the world. Firstly, we have April Fools Day tomorrow, on the 1st of April. In exactly a week, on 7th April, we can enjoy a long weekend, because there will be a bank holiday next Friday, which is also Good Friday! However, there’s more! We will ALSO be having another bank holiday on Monday 10th April, or Easter Monday.  So, 4 days of relaxation. This will, unfortunately, mean that our blog will be moved to Thursday instead of Friday. Our new offer will still be available, though! Check it out on our site!

April Fools Day 2023 at InknTonerUK

Lets focus on April Fools for now, though. April Fools Day is a great day to pull a prank on friends or family. Every year, it’s not rare to see someone take a joke too far or do something absurd and really unfunny. Although we trust our customers and blog readers, we would like to remind everyone to keep jokes and ideas harmless and innocent.

April Fools Day 2023 at InknTonerUK

What are some ideas you can pull on the people closest to you? We’ve got a list prepared for you of pranks anyone can use around the office and at home:

The ‘Dead Mouse’ Computer Prank

Don’t worry, you you don’t need any animals for this prank. All you have to do for this is stick a piece of paper or a note under a computer mouse and it will ‘die’. Since the mouse’s sensor won’t detect any movement on the plain paper stuck to it underneath, the cursor on the computer screen won’t move! The prank lasts as long as the person doesn’t realise they’ve been the victim of your joke and remove the paper from beneath the mouse. Just make sure no paper is visible when using the mouse normally!

Minty Oreos

This prank is a bit more difficult and requires a little more effort than the mouse prank. First of all, you need white toothpaste and oreos. That’s it! You need to separate the oreo cookies and delicately remove the oreo cookie stuffing from the middle carefully. Next, apply the white toothpaste evenly across the cookie and put it back together, making it look as close to the original oreo as possible. This prank requires more time, effort, precision and patience to get it right, but it’s nothing too hard.

Unexpected Bug!

Many people are not fans of seeing bugs in their room, let alone in places they least expect. Get a plastic bug – whether it’s a spider, fly, cockroach, worm or anything else, and put it in a place where you know your victim will be or look and just… wait. That’s it! Simple, and pretty much no effort is required for this prank to be successful. Maybe choose your victim wisely for this one, you don’t want anyone to be terrified, but see the funny side too.

We hope you enjoyed our April Fools Prank list! The pranks listed here are only a few out of many, many more. We wanted to keep it simple, funny and not expensive. We know, they were done thousands of times before, but they’re still good. Try it out!

European Commission New Proposals

Featured

The European has introduced a new set of rules to combat environmental problems. Today, we will be looking at some of the changes that will be implemented within EU territory.

The European Commission has proposed new ideas for improving environmental impact within EU borders

The Right to Repair

The European Commission has proposed a new way for consumers to repair products in a more cost-effective and easier way. This is to avoid products being replaced and increase the selling of more sustainable products, as well as promoting the repair of goods, reducing waste, saving money (consumers) and supporting European Green Deal goals.

The Commission’s proposal hopes to make repairing easy and accessible, with aims to reduce 35 million tons of waste, 30 million tons of resources and 261 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Consumers lose nearly €12 Billion annually when opting to replace products instead of repairing and reusing them. With the introduction of the new proposal, expectations show that the EU will grow and invest by €4.8 billion!

New rules to combat Greenwashing

The European Commission has also proposed new rules to combat greenwashing. Greenwashing is the act of providing the public/investors with misleading or false information about the environmental impact of a company’s products and operations. You could say it’s pretty much environmental fraud. Greenwashing (in the UK) is illegal and fines may be placed on companies that decide to Greenwash. The European Commission plans to prevent greenwashing by creating new opportunities for companies that actually improve their products environmental impact by preventing unfair competition and providing consumers with reliable information to make better informed choices.

Carbon Neutrality around the Globe

Cartridge World Cyprus has joined the growing list of companies that are going carbon neutral. Cartridge World Cyprus has made significant developments in achieving its environmental goals by doing so,  offsetting the carbon impact of its business last year, including its own brand ink and toner cartridges! Since 2002, when it started operating, Cartridge World Cyprus has collected and reused over ¾ of a million ink and toner cartridges, achieving a zero-waste outcome.

The new Kyocera ECOSYS MA6000 series mono multifunction printers are also adding to the carbon neutral range. The MA6000 devices are part of the ECOSYS Series which stands for Ecology, Economy and Systems.

St Patrick’s Day 2023

Featured

St. Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday that celebrates the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. People celebrate it on March 17th every year and it’s a public holiday in Ireland.

Ireland Flag

17th-19th Century

Printing played a significant role in the history of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. In the early 17th century, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in Dublin, and it became a yearly tradition. However, the parades were not widely known outside of Ireland until the late 19th century when newspapers began printing stories and images of the festivities.

St. Patrick's Day 2023

Late 1800s – Early 1900s

With the rise of newspapers and the growth of the printing industry in the late 1800s and early 1900s, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations became more widely known and celebrated throughout the world. Print media, including newspapers, magazines, and postcards, helped to spread knowledge of the holiday, and its traditions, such as wearing green, decorating with shamrocks, and consuming Irish food and drink.

In addition to print media, printing also played a role in the creation of St. Patrick’s Day merchandise. Printed items, such as buttons, badges, and posters, were there to commemorate the holiday and their distribution spread wide. These items helped to promote the holiday and create a sense of unity and celebration among people of Irish descent around the world.

In summary, printing has played an important role in spreading knowledge of the Event and its traditions, as well as in the creation and distribution of St. Patrick’s Day merchandise.

What are some Printing Contributions?

Featured

Today, printing is a very important part of many industries. It’s a form of communication, expression and a way to use time efficiently. The still-developing 3D industry has opened up a world of many possibilities and opportunities for more innovation, productivity and inventions. The contributions from printing have influenced major changes in politics, religion, science and knowledge, innovation and even our basic human rights, like democracy.

Printing Press

But what has printing done for us specifically throughout history? Let’s talk about that and start.

Contributions

Printing has had a significant impact on the world in many ways, including:

  • The spread of knowledge: The printing press revolutionized the dissemination of knowledge and information, allowing books and other printed materials to be produced quickly and inexpensively, making them more widely available to people around the world. This helped to advance education, science, and culture.
  • The Reformation: The printing press played a crucial role in the Protestant Reformation, as it allowed reformers to publish their ideas and disseminate them throughout Europe. This led to the spread of Protestantism and the fragmentation of the Christian church.
  • The Scientific Revolution: The printing press helped to spread scientific knowledge and information, which led to the Scientific Revolution. This period of intellectual and cultural change began in the 16th century and continued through the 17th and 18th centuries, during which time significant advances were made in fields such as physics, astronomy, and biology.
Printing Press
  • The American Revolution: Printed materials such as newspapers and pamphlets played a crucial role in the American Revolution, as they helped to spread revolutionary ideas and rally support for the cause of independence.
  • The Industrial Revolution: The printing press played a critical role in the Industrial Revolution, as it allowed for the mass production of printed materials such as books, newspapers, and magazines. This helped to fuel the growth of literacy and education, and contributed to the development of new technologies and industries.
  • The spread of democracy: The printing press also played an important role in the spread of democracy, as it allowed for the dissemination of information and ideas that challenged traditional power structures and encouraged political participation by the masses.

Modern Printing

These are only a few contributions that printing has given to us. There are als many more contributions throughout history and the things printing is gifting us is still continuing, causing the industry and others to thrive! For example, ink cartridges and toner cartridges are constantly changing and new innovative techniques are improving printing consumables.

Investing in the Printing Industry – Is it Worth it?

Featured

There are a few reasons why one might consider investing in the printing industry:

  1. High demand: Despite growing digitalisation of many industries, there’s still significant demand for printed materials. For example, particularly in areas such as packaging, labels and marketing materials.
  2. Diverse customer base: The printing industry serves a wide range of customers. From small businesses to large corporations, as well as individuals and organisations in the education and government sectors.
  3. Technological advancements: The printing industry has seen significant technological advancements in recent years, with innovations. For example, in areas such as digital printing. 3D Printing, and automation leading to greater efficiency and cost savings.
  4. Sustainability: Many companies and consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about environmental sustainability. The printing industry has responded by developing more eco-friendly printing processes and materials.
  5. Opportunities for growth: While some traditional areas of the printing industry, such as newspaper printing, have seen declines in recent years, there are still many areas of the industry that offer opportunities for growth and innovation. For example, printing on demand and personalised printing services.
Is it Worth Investing £ into the Printing Industry?

Of course, like any investment, investing in the printing industry carries risks, such as changes in technology, fluctuations in demand, and competition from other industries. As with any investment decision, it’s important to carefully consider the potential risks and rewards before making a decision.

Investing can always be risky - Keep that in mind when investing into the Printing Industry!

One Year Of War in Ukraine

Featured

One year ago today, the Russian Invasion of Ukraine began. After many years of peace and prosperity, war has once again entered the European continent. One year ago, all eyes were on Ukraine and Russia. No one expected Ukrainian resistance to hold out for so long against one of the strongest armies in the world. A year into war, Ukraine has received help from its allies – Poland, the USA and the UK among others. Although lots of uncertainty and worry has been felt this past year, people look with hope towards a brighter future. With the recent visit of the POTUS, Joe Biden, to Ukraine and Poland, people are awaiting a stop to the brutal war and the one thing everyone wants – peace.

One thing is certain – this war, which has taken the lives of so many in perilous battles, horrifying crimes and caused lots of anger and unrest, has changed Europe, and the world forever.

The Effect of War on the Printing Industry

The war has affected many industries, including the printing industry. The Ukrainian war has devastating effects on global supply chains and causing energy costs to increase. This in turn contributes to increase in costs for print production.

Although it’s more difficult that it was, new opportunities are opening up for the printing industry amid the conflict. For example, 3D Printing evolved and innovated to such a point that Ukrainian forces are using 3D printed weapons, like bombs/grenades to fight the Russian invaders!

It’s still increasingly difficult for the printing industry to keep business afloat and stable. We encourage our visitors to make purchases and help support us in these trying times for everyone. We also attached some posters below to promote peace in Europe and spread the “Stop War!” message:

Valentines Day 2023

Featured

Valentine’s Day is close. It’s an opportunity to spend a whole day with someone special to you and share your love for them.

The 14th February is soon and many don’t know what to get their Valentine. Of course, it doesn’t matter how much you spend or how large your present is. What counts is the thought, the simple gesture to give something from the heart. After all, the toughest part of Valentine’s Day is getting the perfect gift for your significant other. First and foremost, will they like it? Also, is it good enough? Don’t worry, InknTonerUK’s got your back.

InknTonerUK Valentine’s Day Card Ideas

A gift that expresses the importance of your Valentine and how much you care for them – like a card – is always a good start. We made some templates of Cards for you below:

Valentines Day Card #3

However, cards by themselves, although a sweet gesture, can be considered lazy and unoriginal. Additionally, you need something else to go along with it. Think outside the box, try to make it romantic and sincere for your partner. But most importantly, make it different. People get bored of receiving the same Valentine’s gifts every year. Try to mix it up, do something you wouldn’t normally do with your loved one. Try out new things and live through an experience together. Though, a box of chocolates and flowers is always welcome too!

Going back to the cards, our Photo Paper is also perfect for printing out cards in very high quality! Our priceless ink cartridges and toners are out of this world – a perfect product for an event like Valentine’s Day! See for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!
