Sustainable Companies – Konica Minolta in Top 100

Featured

Konica Minolta has recently been listed among the “2023 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World”. This is the 6th time 5th year in a row that it has been placed on the list, once in 2011 and then from 2019-2022! The list is announced every year by Corporate Knights at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Meeting.

More than 6,000 Companies with more than $1 Billion income worldwide have been taken into account when ranking the most sustainable 100. Things like environmental, social and governance indicators were evaluated in detail as well as the promotion of diversity and innovation along with the percentage of eco-friendly products that have sold. Konica Minolta ranks first out of four Japanese companies found on the Sustainability List.

Konica Minolta has been ranked in the Top 100 Most Sustainable Companies in the World!

Since 2003, Konica Minolta has considered sustainability to be very important and focusing on environmental issues has always benefited them. Konica Minolta Business Solutions’ Senior Vice President (Marketing) in the USA, Kay Fernandez said that even as Konica Minolta enters their 150th year of business, the company still remains committed to innovating for the benefit of customers and the good of society and the world.”

Konica Minolta is proud to be once again recognised for their “continual efforts to be a leader in social and environmental sustainability”. The Japanese Company is already ahead in its environmental goals to reach a carbon negative status by 2030 instead of its original target of reaching it by 2050!

How has Konica Minolta Been Sustainable?

Konica Minolta has a section of its website dedicated to its sustainable achievements and its goals for the future. For example, Konica Minolta’s devices can be programmed to reduce waste and use resources responsibly. Almost 90% of Konica Minolta’s device cases contain recycled materials. 40% of their Toner Bottles are made from recycled milk bottles! The Company wants to replace recycled materials for its entire toner production worldwide from 25% to 100% in future.

Konica Minolta also actively reduces packaging and ranks as the number 1 brand in packaging efficiency. To add to all of that, Konica Minolta has also contributed to reforestation. Since 2012, Konica Minolta France is a sponsor of the “Marathon Vert de Rennes” (Green Marathon), helping reforestation. 1 Kilometre Ran by a Participant = 1 Tree Planted. Since 2012, almost 725,000 trees have been planted in total!

EU – New October Tax!

Featured

From 1st October 2023, the new EU draft law – the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) – will enter into force with a 3 year transition period following, during which only reporting obligations will apply.

CBAM Effects

The CBAM is one of several tax and carbon price reforms proposed as part of the EU’s Green Deal. CBAM’s goal is to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gases by minimum 55% by 2030 and protecting jobs. Things like, for example, plastics, hydrogen, organic chemicals, including printing products like ink cartridges, fall into the list of products that CBAM encompasses. Other products also include, fertilisers, aluminium, cement, electricity, iron etc.

Carbon Reliant Industries affected by EU CBAM Tax

What does this mean for carbon-reliant industries? Most notably, effects on environment and “carbon leakage” will decrease significantly and be a step towards achieving EU climate goals. EU citizens will have the opportunity to purchase products from a market that is open to environmentally friendly resources! Businesses that focus and invest more into their environmental impact will surely benefit from CBAM, since importing into EU countries will be easier. CBAM will also encourage producers in non-EU countries to green their production processes.

Guy Fawkes Mask (Print Out Now!)

Featured

What is Guy Fawkes and why is the 5th of November a memorable day?

The Gunpowder Plot was a scheme to kill King James I by a group of Catholics (Guy Fawkes being one of them) to restore the Catholic Monarchy in the UK. Guy Fawkes had the responsibility to deal with the explosives however; it was a failed attempt due to Fawkes being caught with Gunpowder under the House of Lords.

You may have seen many people wearing the famous Guy Fawkes mask on this important day to commemorate the occasion. We have the best Guy Fawkes mask template available for you and your friends/family to enjoy.

Guy Fawkes Mask

You can print this mask off in black and white or colour if you prefer. In addition, if you’re on a budget or want to save money, you can use compatible Inks for your printer. They perform just as well as originals. It is also better to do so for the environment. Now that you have your Inks, you need to pair this with a good quality printer. I’ll list some printers so you can get to print the best quality masks, but also the pros and cons!

  1. Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850

PROS: Terrific printing quality and Excellent Mobile Connectivity Options

CONS: Quite a pricey printer

  • Brother HL-L6400DW

PROS: Fast Printing, Excellent Graphics and Photos, Small and Light to carry, Generous Paper Capacity, Low Cost Compared to other printers and High volume ratings.

CONS: No USB Memory Drive Support

  • HP Tango X

PROS: Small and Manageable, has Voice Control and perfect for smart homes, an impressive print quality

CONS: Small paper input, Scans and Copies can only be done via smartphones.

Now that you understand which inks to use and what the best printers to print your masks are, you’ll need:

A pair of scissors (Use sensibly or ask anyone to assist you),

Paper, your printer or printer of your choice,

A hole puncher or the use of your scissors to punch holes into it,

Lastly a string or a rubber band to wrap behind your ears.

We also have different printing papers for you (e.g. glossy or matte). You can also potentially visit your local library/a friend’s house to save money. I recommend buying a regular A4 paper from our website as we sell good quality paper. Once you have your mask printed and cut out, make sure to use A4 paper to punch holes on the eyes and edge of the mask. You can then attach the rubber band, elastic band or string to the holes on the side of the mask and you are all done!

Demand for Ink Cartridges Steady

Despite futurologists predicting the advent of the paperless office, ink cartridge demand is as high as ever.

It seems every year a new raft of predictions on how future technology will transform our lives is released. Concepts such as interactive TV, flying cars and the paperless office seem to be doomed from the start. Ink cartridge sales are steady despite the fact the UK has embraced the green revolution, recycling and the internet. Ink cartridge demand is still high because having printed pages to hand is still the ultimate way to capture information.

The Paperless Office Myth

Like paperback books, ink cartridge demand endures because of the physical quality of having printed ink on paper. Some futurologists have predicted books will disappear as hand-held computer monitors carry hundreds of novels in their memory banks. But nobody likes to read, especially something they want to read again and again, interact with or refer back to, on a computer screen. Ink cartridge sales in offices across the UK are high because of the need to print off and physically interact with information – from underlining facts, highlighting ideas or isolating thoughts.

The Humble Ink Cartridge

And aside from the physical interaction of dealing with printed off essays, articles, fact sheets or reports, ink cartridges are necessary so we can have convenience and flexibility too. By using a simple black and white ink cartridge, we can print off particular reports and carry them on the commute home. We can read them on the train or in the bath. We can pass documents to colleagues and share ideas. Of course this can be done using a memory stick and a laptop, transferring data so it can be carried from point A to point B, but doing so is expensive, more inflexible, bulky and time consuming. It’s not surprising that despite the predictions of many, the humble ink cartridge is such a staple in office supplies across the country.

Printers in Overdrive

Despite futurologists’ predictions, there’s inventions so integral to how we work effectively, it seems they’ll never die. The ink cartridge manages to ride tides of resistance. Recent figures suggest British office workers use up to 120 billion pieces of paper every year. Ink cartridges and A4 paper for printing machines are kept busy 24-7. An estimated 10% of a businesses turnover is dedicated to paper-related activity.

Print Junkies Gobble Ink Cartridges

Types of ‘print junkies’ have been identified as the drivers behind ink cartridge sales. The ‘old school’ printers who like to print off hard copies of emails to deal with them. The ‘competitive’ printers who believe using the ink cartridge to maximum effect will make them look busier. Most importantly, the ‘trigger happy’ printers who mistakenly print off 60-page documents before checking page length, wasting valuable ink cartridges. An office worker is estimated to print an average of 22 pages of paper every day. Many offices could become more efficient in equipment use. There’s still huge demand for paper and ink in office environments.
