HP Instant Ink Subscription Prices Increase… Again.

HP increased Instant Ink Subscription fees yet again. This time, the price went up by 50%! This caused a wave of anger and many consumers to seek out cheaper and better options. The Instant Ink Subscription kicked off with a rocky start, with people paying for their printer cartridges monthly, in order to eliminate the third-party competition, which offered the same cartridges (with equally good quality) at lower prices.

Many HP customers are thinking of switching to more lenient and supportive companies such as Brother, which are much more cost-effective and reliable. Users on a Reddit forum expressed their outrage and disappointment to other HP customers. Further comments, observations and clear facts have led to more reasons to leave the company, which was described by a few people as “greedy”. Users showed their distaste towards the company by giving their own experiences and true stories they’ve had with HP.

This isn’t the first time the American Company has shown that customers aren’t really their priority. It seems like money comes first and many dissatisfied customers would agree with this statement. HP’s embargo on third-party manufacturers and their very strict and limited use of inks shows that customers are almost forced into complying with what the company finds suitable, while other companies, such as the previously mentioned Brother, give their users more freedom and choice.

The HP Subscription Plans look like this:

HP PlanPrice Before IncreasePrice After IncreaseCost Per Page (after increase)
10 pages/month€0.99€1.49€0.149
100 pages/month€2.99€5.99€0.0599
300 pages/month€5.99€11.99€0.0399
700 pages/month€12.49€24.99€0.0357

This doesn’t seem like a lot of money, however, when putting into consideration that one ink cartridge usually (for many people) can last even many months, it puts into perspective the unnecessary spending costs. Many people have realised this and have unsubscribed from this unneeded form of purchasing cartridges.

HP wouldn’t lose or deter customers if customers had the freedom to choose between compatible and original products. It would be beneficial for all if this happened. Today, money can be a powerful factor affecting certain things.

InknToner UK highly recommends compatibles inks as well as originals, as neither void printer warranties and none of the two pose a security threat to any printer!
