Almost halfway through 2023 – What’s new in Printing?

It’s almost May! It seems like the year just began, and we are already nearly halfway through 2023! Why is May so important this year, especially in the UK? Well, first of all, we’ll be having a bank holiday on Monday! The long weekend will give us a chance to relax, take some time for ourselves and have a nice, short 4 day working week. The week after, we’ll have another Monday off due to the Coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camilla.

We will write more about the King and his Coronation next week. In the meantime, we’ll be looking at what’s new in the printing industry.

China to build a moon base using 3D Printers?

Firstly, China plans to build a 3D-Printed base on the moon in the next few years, which is a revolutionary step for mankind, space travel and inhabiting another planet, which humans have been striving towards and planning for years now. Entrepreneurs, most notably Elon Musk, have been trying to colonise Mars for years now, with hopes of some progress and plans for Mars bases also being made for the future.

Lego 3D Printer can print skin?

In other news, back on our planet, Lego has built a 3D Printer capable of printing human skin. The printer creates layers of skin cells for now, but scientists from Cardiff University, who built the printer, hope that one day the machine will be able to print skin properly. It’ll be difficult as there are factors that limit the printing of skin. For example, the limited supply of human skin and tissue that is available to study. The scientists used bio-ink containing living cells to print the skin cells.

Lego has made some incredible things in the past, such as a full life-size scale Velociraptor, Batmobile and even cities. Many people, organisations and communities have constructed some large and impressive builds in the past, and it seems that Lego innovation and new techniques won’t end for a long, long time.

3D Printer

The printing industry is still thriving, still evolving, and still innovating and changing. We love to see new things in the printing industry, especially the new ground-breaking and record-shattering things like printing 3D skin or building moon bases from 3D printed materials.
