Chocolate 3D Printer Available For Sale

Yes, you indeed read that correctly. In line with the latest advances in 3D printing see’s the release of Choc Creator Version 1 which can print out custom 3D chocolates. At a hefty pricetag of around £2500 the Choc Creator Version 1 certainly is not cheap but has gathered interest from big name chocolate brands like Thornton’s and Co. The Choc Creator printer uses liquid chocolate and prints onto a flatbed surface from a design loaded into a computer. It uses a syringe and mechanical arm which although slow can precisely lay chocolate onto the flatbed surface using layers to build up a multitude of 3D shapes.

Manufacturers ChocEdge say they are focused “on providing cutting-edge 3D chocolate printing solutions for creative users and establishing world-leading capability in machine, software and material development.” We say it it would certainly make a great present and go down a treat! – Pun intended.

ChocEdge came about from a collaboration between colleagues and students from the University of Exeter. Founder, Dr Liang Hao termed the technology Chocolate Additive Layer Manufacturing (ChocALM). It’s inception came about in October 2007 when a group of final year students started to develop the Chocolate Additive Layer Manufacturing (ChocALM) machine and process.
