3D Printed Breast Implants

There is one common thing between the printing industry and the breast implant industry. They are both huge! Also, anyone can purchase breast implants in a similar way that you buy hp toner cartridges, except the “minor” operation and the slightly more expensive cost price.

3D Printing Developments

3D printing continues to go in the right direction to improve many different things in our life’s. This time 3D printing will attempt to help out the medical sector by printing breast implants. You are probably thinking “oh no, not fake boobs again!!” but do no rush into conclusions because TeVido BioDevices a company from Texas is primarily concentrating on the breast cancer patients who are undergoing surgeries.

Why 3D printed breast implants instead of the old method?

TeVido BioDevices has indicated that it will be used for cosmetic surgery as well, once the technology is developed fully. Apparently, it will be cheaper than the current breast implant surgery. Another reason why 3D printed breast implants would be better is because it will deliver better end-results. It will use the body fat of the patient and can even be used for nipple reconstruction. This means that in a way, breast implants would be natural.

Cheaper and natural breasts? This is almost as good, if not better than our pair of toners for the compatible Samsung MLT-D103L toner cartridges for the Samsung ml-2955DW printer which cost only £49.99. The 3D industry has to develop for a while before it will be able to achieve that type of cost price and the developments of this printer are still in early stages. The technology so far has only been an experiment on mice. Nevertheless the future looks bright because there has been some funding but despite receiving an award of 115,000 euro grant ReVido will need way more money than this and will be applying for another grant.

One of the co-founders of the TeVido company Laura Bosworth commented:

“We highlighted the idea that ours could be a platform and picked a target market. Once we get this working, it could be useful in a wide portfolio of applications. We’re focusing on filling a small tumour void as our first product”

How Does it Work?

The 3D printer works the same as the inkjet printer does, except instead of ink cartridges it uses protein, gelatine, alginate and specialised gel.

Print a House with 3D Printer

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the future of 3D Printing. The 3D printing technology has been improving rapidly in the last couple of years and a lot of interesting objects have been already printed, such as motorbikes, guns, dresses and even cheeseburgers! But we bet you didn’t expect to 3D Print…. A HOUSE?!

The House and the Dimensions

The possibilities are endless and that is why, it makes sense to print an endless house! Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars is planning to print a house using huge D-shape 3D printer, printing 6 x 9 meter pieces at each time and then assembling them together.

The house will be a circle shape and will have floors that transform into ceilings, with 1 entrance and 1 exit in each room, making it an “endless house”.

3D Printed House

This project is due to start in 2014 and should take an estimated one year and six months to complete.

Janjaap Ruijssenaars Comments

When asked about the design of the house this is what Janjaap Ruijssenaars had to say: “We analysed that the essence of landscape is that it has no beginning or ending, so it’s continuous, not only the fact the world is round but also water goes into land, valleys into mountains, it’s always continuous.”

Ruijssenaars has hinted where his inspiration came from when he commented:

“The great thing about the printer is that you can take it somewhere and then print with the ground you find on location”

“So you could take the printer to the moon, assemble it there and print with moon material.”

It is fascinating to know, that our future generations will be printing houses just by pressing a single button and possibly printing houses on the moon with the new extraordinary 3D printer technology.

Here at Ink’n’TonerUK we cannot offer you 3D cartridges just yet, but we can offer low cost ink cartridges and low cost toner cartridges for you to print your 3D house plans, so when the time is right, you will have the plans handy to print your own 3D home.
