Lexmark Exit Inkjet Industry

After continual falling sales spanning over the last five years Lexmark have announced that they are closing down the inkjet division of their company. This will result in the closure of their inkjet manufacturing plant in the Philippines and a worldwide reduction of their workforce by 13%; equating to 1,700 jobs, 1,100 of which are part of the manufactures restructuring program following disappointing sales figures.

What’s next for Lexmark?

Lexmark say that they will now turn their attention towards the laser printing arm of their company, higher margin software solutions and their managed print services (MPS). The move comes as now surprise after years of disappointing results and Lexmark have said they have had to make tough decisions to remain competitive

Paul Rooke, CEO and Chairman of Lexmark commented on technology website The Next Web: “Today’s announcement represents difficult decisions, which are necessary to drive improved profitability and significant savings.

“Our investments are focused on higher value imaging and software solutions, and we believe the synergies between imaging and the emerging software elements of our business will continue to drive growth across the organization.

Lexmark have announced that they will continue to manufacture Lexmark ink cartridges for discontinued printers for several years however, and inkntoneruk will continue to stock them.
