Today, we will take a look at the printer of the week – the Genesis S815 from the Japanese Company Lexmark. Unconventional in some ways, this device takes the conventional, genuine Lexmark inkjet cartridges and compatible Lexmark ink cartridges.

The Lexmark Genesis S815

The Genesis S815 device offers an unusual but quicker way to scan your printings and photos. Rather then scanning the documents the Genesis S815 simply takes a snapshot instead, due to the use of latest flash scan technology. This ensures fast scanning capability of 3 seconds from the moment you switch the printer on. However it must be noted that the scanning quality is only 300 dpi and is nowhere near the quality of a workhorse’s all in one

The Lexmark Genesis S815 has a decent printing quality and speed too. It’s printer resolution of 4800 x 1200 dots per inch is sufficient for any office printing needs. The printing speed of 33 pages per minute in black and 30 pages per minute in colour.

Its stylish and unique design will surely impress everyone in the office while delivering solid performances when required. Weighing almost 9 kg the Genesis S815 device is not your usual lightweight inkjet printer. It comes with one paper tray of 100 sheets and 3000 pages maximum duty cycle.

Strong Points

  • Quick scanning speed

Weak Points

  • Low scanning resolution

All in all, this is a brilliant device for home printing or small business users to scan and print documents swiftly. It has a wonderful easy to use 4.3 touch-screen for easy print job selections, decent printing speed and efficient scanning capabilities. Lexmark Sold Inkjet Patents

Click Here To Go To Inkntoneruk

International corporation Lexmark has announced their exit of the inkjet industry long ago. In other words, they just couldn’t handle the competition from HP ink cartridges, Canon ink cartridges and Epson ink cartridges. The Company is about to sell its Inkjet Patents!

Lexmark are about to sell 1500 inkjet patents. This will put the final nail in the coffin for Lexmark’s Inkjet industry. Lexmark are cashing in. Instead of attempting to compete, they’re selling the patents to a Japanese company called Funai Electric Company Ltd. The transaction will also boost them by $100 million dollars (about 78 million euros). The deal is additionally scheduled to be completed by the first half of 2013.

Funai from Osaka in Japan has been a partner of Lexmark for over 15 years. Lexmark has indicated that the two businesses have strong relationship between each other due to so much time working together.

Funai will receive inkjet research, shares and Lexmark International, which is based in Philippines.

President and CEO of Funai, Tomonori Hayashi stated:

“This transaction provides us with a crucial and tremendous opportunity to enhance our office solution business. Funai and Lexmark have developed a great partnership and we are glad to take over Lexmarks inkjet related technology and assets. The acquisition of the latest inkjet technology enables Funai to start and grow our own business. Funai will benefit from a strong inkjet business”

It is difficult to see why Lexmark are selling the inkjet technology and the patents. Especially with inkjet printers catching up rapidly with laser printers and Epson even proved, that some of their inkjet printer are better than laserjets. However, Lexmark made a decision and only time will show whether it was the right one or the wrong one.

Chairman of Lexmark and CEO, Paul Rooke additionally stated:

” As we continue our transition to becoming a leading end to end solutions provider, this transaction essentially completes our exit from the ownership of inkjet related assets, although we will continue to support our existing customer base with the sale of inject supplies. Funai has been a trusted partner of Lexmark’s since 1997 and I am fully confident in Funai’s ability to deliver high quality inkjet supplies for Lexmark. “

The two companies have been in partnership for so long and while Lexmark will focus their attention on Lexmark printers and toner cartridges for Lexmark printers, it is nice to see that Lexmark will still be taking care of their existing customers by supplying ink cartridges for Lexmark inkjet printers.

The decision to quit the inkjet industry and move to the Laser Jet Industry will also save Lexmark $95 million (£60m) a year.

HP, Canon and Epson dominate the inkjet market and it seems that Lexmark, could not keep up with the “big boys” in respect to the inkjet industry. The chairman of Lexmark Paul Rooke, stated “Today’s announcement represents difficult decisions, which are necessary to drive improved profitability and significant savings. Our investments are focused on higher value imaging and software solutions, and we believe the synergies between imaging and the emerging software elements of our business will continue to drive growth across the organization” he added “As we move forward, we remain confident in our strategy, competitiveness and ability to create value for shareholders”.

Lexmark Exit Inkjet Industry

After continual falling sales spanning over the last five years Lexmark have announced that they are closing down the inkjet division of their company. This will result in the closure of their inkjet manufacturing plant in the Philippines and a worldwide reduction of their workforce by 13%; equating to 1,700 jobs, 1,100 of which are part of the manufactures restructuring program following disappointing sales figures.

What’s next for Lexmark?

Lexmark say that they will now turn their attention towards the laser printing arm of their company, higher margin software solutions and their managed print services (MPS). The move comes as now surprise after years of disappointing results and Lexmark have said they have had to make tough decisions to remain competitive

Paul Rooke, CEO and Chairman of Lexmark commented on technology website The Next Web: “Today’s announcement represents difficult decisions, which are necessary to drive improved profitability and significant savings.

“Our investments are focused on higher value imaging and software solutions, and we believe the synergies between imaging and the emerging software elements of our business will continue to drive growth across the organization.

Lexmark have announced that they will continue to manufacture Lexmark ink cartridges for discontinued printers for several years however, and inkntoneruk will continue to stock them.

Dell Regular Ink Use Cartridges..?

There is a bit of confusion surrounding Dell’s introduction of their regular use ink cartridges and what exactly does it mean. As some of you may know, Lexmark owns Dell and Dell ink cartridges are essentially Lexmark ink cartridge rebrands. For those familiar with Lexmark’s attempt to stomp out the remanufacturing industry this will ring familiar bells, but for the rest of us it only provides confusion. The introduction of Dell’s regular use ink cartridge range could be a change of direction from Lexmark after they have seen heavy losses in their printer and ink cartridge sales.

Dell Regular Use Cartridges

Dell’s regular use cartridges could be an attempt to give its failing company image a facelift and give it a chance to reshape for others to see it as a pro-recycling company. However, this is, after all, just a simple illusion as there is no difference between the single use and regular cartridges in terms of design and page yield except a 75% increase in price between the two.

There is very little information regarding Dell’s regular use cartridges, but what we think is that the regular use cartridges can be for use with a continuous ink flow system or refilled. For those of you who do not know what this is, it is essentially bottles of ink connecting directly to your ink cartridges via little tubes and can be in use whilst printing. (See the picture provided below). The type of cartridges which Dell are using with their regular use scheme (ink tanks) would be very strange to refill. That’s why we also think they are intended for use with a continuous ink flow system. Customers can, however, run the risk of refilling these ink cartridges themselves but run the gauntlet of a tricky and a potentially disastrous mess if it all goes wrong.

HP vs Lexmark

Today, we will face off giants within the Printing Industry against each other – Lexmark vs HP. It’ll help determine which company is better for you.

HP vs Lexmark

Lexmark

Some OEM (original) cartridge manufactures don’t like the remanufacturing industry recycling their cartridges and reselling them to customers at a lower rate. The most obvious example would be Lexmark who make their cartridges very difficult to remanufacture. Lexmark don’t won’t the cartridge remanufacturing industry refurbishing their cartridges or you buying a compatible Lexmark cartridge whether it be an ink cartridge or toner cartridge. They have introduced their return program scheme to further eliminate their cartridges being recycled and put it under the guise of recycling. Lexmark return and non return program cartridges are exactly the same except the non-return program cartridge is significantly more expensive. Some retailers have stopped selling the non-return program Lexmark cartridges as there’s no point. It only serves to confuse and baffle the customer.

Lexmark also continue their onslaught by including many different page yields for some of their printer consumable ranges. With up to four different page yield cartridges – standard – high – extra high and extra extra high – combined with the option of having each cartridge as a return or non-return program cartridge the choice can be overwhelming and completely unnecessary. These Lexmark cartridges can all hold the same yield but are filled to different levels and sold at a premium. This is an incredible waste of materials and actually promotes plastics being sent to landfill which take hundreds of years to decompose. The actual cost of toner is minuscule yet Lexmark overcharge massively for something which costs them pennies to do.

HP

HP recognise the remanufacturing industry and take a much more pro-active approach to their cartridges being remanufactured. Their cartridges also offer more value to the customer while promoting the use of recycled materials and products at the same time. To put it in a nutshell HP additionally beat Lexmark every time in terms of quality, cost and remanufacturing.  Even HP’s packaging is more environmentally conscious with the use of cardboard much more prevalent than Lexmark’s. The author understands that this is a biased view point but has based this decision on the experience gained working within the printing consumables industry for four years.

Web Based Printing and ePrinter’s

Nowadays with more electrical hardware becoming web enabled, printers which come ready to surf the internet are the next step. Long gone are the days where cables connected printers to P.Cs. Manufactures like HP and Lexmark have developed printers with sophisticated touch screens. The screens allow you to browse and print from the internet; removing the need for a p.c. Web based printing is the future.

You can now print remotely from a host of electronic gadgets which are connected to your printers network or even as with HP anywhere in the world which has a internet connection. That’s because HP’s new e-range printers come with their own email address; giving you remote printing access from anywhere in the world. Its called ePrint.

Now why would you want to be able to do any of this with your printer? Consider how potentially useful removing the need for a pc to print something is. Quickly printing off a recipe, map, boarding pass or document from your phone/printer is a superbly useful function.

Printing off a photograph which you take for your loved ones to share while you are away on a business trip or holiday is another reason which printer manufactures market but realistically there are a lot more practical uses than meets the eye.

Of course with every craze there are all trimmings which come with it. In our case, it’s printing apps and social media plugins. These integrate printing ‘niches’ into your smart phone, tablet PC and printer. Amazing, trend setting stuff useful for businesses or an over elaborate use of networks and internet connections, that is something which I’ll leave you to decide.

Ink cartridges – buying the easy way

Buy your ink cartridges online the easy way, for a cost-effective service.

Most of us are used to buying things over the internet – whether it’s the weekly shopping, Christmas presents or things for the home. A huge variety of goods and services are available online and yet we still use shops for certain items. Many people still visit computer suppliers to buy ink cartridges, for example, but if you choose the right website, you can cut down your time and your costs by buying online.

All ink cartridges in one place

The best thing about buying online, of course, is that there are hundreds of ink cartridges to choose from. So even if you have an older printer, or one that you can have difficult finding replacement ink cartridges for on the high street, an online site is often able to help. Finding the ink cartridges you need is easy – just type in your printer make and model number – or use the links on the site to find your printer quickly and easily. From there, it’s just a short step to ordering the ink cartridges you want and checking out. Delivery is often within a couple of days and, depending how much you spend, delivery could also be completely free. You can buy ink cartridges for a wide range of printers – inkjet and laser – including:

Greener ink cartridges

Empty ink cartridges can be wasteful, particularly if they’re just thrown away when they’re finished. Many companies are now recycling ink cartridges, which helps the environment, but also reduces the cost. For many models of printer, you can buy brand new original cartridges, but you can also buy cheaper cartridges that are compatible with your machine, or you can choose recycled cartridges that will save you money but give you the same great quality print.
