Debunking Ink/Toner Myths

Featured

Inks and Toners can be a tricky thing to solve before buying them, there is a lot of misleading information on the internet about what works with what. Regardless, there are many myths that have been debunked. The most common myth examples asked are ‘What is cheaper?’ ‘What’s better quality?’ ‘What will fit in my printer?’ I am hoping that deflating these myths about Inks/Toners and elaborating on them make it much clearer for you. Today we’ll be debunking all these myths, so hopefully you know what’s true and what isn’t.

Ink Cartridges

‘Compatibles are cheap; they will not work as well.’

Compatibles or ‘remanufactured’ Inks are the most questioned in this Industry. They are also misinterpreted. Compatibles have a long shelf life and have similar- if not the same quality as an original. Yes, the best quality in the industry are Genuine Originals however, remanufactured cartridges do not create poor quality prints. The only difference between the two is the price. They work just as good and you would not need to break into your wallet for them.

‘Cartridges are not worth buying, they run out so fast.’

Ink and Toner Cartridges only run out so fast because many people avoid searching for the ‘page yield’ when buying their Inks. They assume that buying the Inks or their toners blindly will result in them just being able to print however many pages they want. This is a very common issue and can be frustrating. Ink Cartridges only run out so fast when you print a lot of images and text that do not have enough spaces in between. The most efficient way to save your Ink is to check the page yield before you buy your inks, make sure you are not printing out unnecessary copies and always make sure to print in low resolution or in black and white if you are only printing text. If you decide to print some text out, make sure that the text font is small too.

Top Tip: Buy multipacks, twin packs or XL’S if you want to save more money!

‘My cartridges always need replacing’

Most of the time the only thing your cartridge is in need for is care. It is so easy to not know the best method to print. The best method is to have your cartridges cleaned if they are leaking. Another method to prevent yourself from always needing to replace your cartridge is; instead of recycling your cartridges, try to get them refilled more often as this will save you time and money.

‘My Inks or Toners will mess up my printers warranty’

Your Inks are most definitely not the reason why your printers might break and affect your printers’ warranty, especially Non OEM cartridges. If you have the right printer and the right Inks or Toners for your printer, than you should be fine with warranty. If you are unsure than it is always best to ask. Demand for Ink Cartridges Steady

Despite futurologists predicting the advent of the paperless office, ink cartridge demand is as high as ever.

It seems every year a new raft of predictions on how future technology will transform our lives is released. Concepts such as interactive TV, flying cars and the paperless office seem to be doomed from the start. Ink cartridge sales are steady despite the fact the UK has embraced the green revolution, recycling and the internet. Ink cartridge demand is still high because having printed pages to hand is still the ultimate way to capture information.

The Paperless Office Myth

Like paperback books, ink cartridge demand endures because of the physical quality of having printed ink on paper. Some futurologists have predicted books will disappear as hand-held computer monitors carry hundreds of novels in their memory banks. But nobody likes to read, especially something they want to read again and again, interact with or refer back to, on a computer screen. Ink cartridge sales in offices across the UK are high because of the need to print off and physically interact with information – from underlining facts, highlighting ideas or isolating thoughts.

The Humble Ink Cartridge

And aside from the physical interaction of dealing with printed off essays, articles, fact sheets or reports, ink cartridges are necessary so we can have convenience and flexibility too. By using a simple black and white ink cartridge, we can print off particular reports and carry them on the commute home. We can read them on the train or in the bath. We can pass documents to colleagues and share ideas. Of course this can be done using a memory stick and a laptop, transferring data so it can be carried from point A to point B, but doing so is expensive, more inflexible, bulky and time consuming. It’s not surprising that despite the predictions of many, the humble ink cartridge is such a staple in office supplies across the country.

Printers in Overdrive

Despite futurologists’ predictions, there’s inventions so integral to how we work effectively, it seems they’ll never die. The ink cartridge manages to ride tides of resistance. Recent figures suggest British office workers use up to 120 billion pieces of paper every year. Ink cartridges and A4 paper for printing machines are kept busy 24-7. An estimated 10% of a businesses turnover is dedicated to paper-related activity.

Print Junkies Gobble Ink Cartridges

Types of ‘print junkies’ have been identified as the drivers behind ink cartridge sales. The ‘old school’ printers who like to print off hard copies of emails to deal with them. The ‘competitive’ printers who believe using the ink cartridge to maximum effect will make them look busier. Most importantly, the ‘trigger happy’ printers who mistakenly print off 60-page documents before checking page length, wasting valuable ink cartridges. An office worker is estimated to print an average of 22 pages of paper every day. Many offices could become more efficient in equipment use. There’s still huge demand for paper and ink in office environments.
