EU – New October Tax!

Featured

From 1st October 2023, the new EU draft law – the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) – will enter into force with a 3 year transition period following, during which only reporting obligations will apply.

CBAM Effects

The CBAM is one of several tax and carbon price reforms proposed as part of the EU’s Green Deal. CBAM’s goal is to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gases by minimum 55% by 2030 and protecting jobs. Things like, for example, plastics, hydrogen, organic chemicals, including printing products like ink cartridges, fall into the list of products that CBAM encompasses. Other products also include, fertilisers, aluminium, cement, electricity, iron etc.

Carbon Reliant Industries affected by EU CBAM Tax

What does this mean for carbon-reliant industries? Most notably, effects on environment and “carbon leakage” will decrease significantly and be a step towards achieving EU climate goals. EU citizens will have the opportunity to purchase products from a market that is open to environmentally friendly resources! Businesses that focus and invest more into their environmental impact will surely benefit from CBAM, since importing into EU countries will be easier. CBAM will also encourage producers in non-EU countries to green their production processes.

Ink Cartridges – How are they made?

Featured

InknTonerUK sells many products, many of which are ink cartridges. But what processes do our ink cartridges go through before they get to our clients? Find out in this Blog!

The Manufcaturing Process of Ink Cartridges

Ink cartridges are usually made by injecting ink into a plastic or metal shell that has been molded to fit the specifications of a particular printer model. The process of making an ink cartridge typically involves the following steps:

  1. Design and molding: The first step in making an ink cartridge is to design the cartridge and create a mold that will be used to form the plastic or metal shell. This mold is typically created using computer-aided design (CAD) software and a 3D printer, and it is designed to match the dimensions and shape of the printer for which the cartridge will be used.
  2. Injection molding: Once the mold is created, it’s used to inject molten plastic/metal into the shape of the cartridge shell. This process is typically done using an injection molding machine. It’s a machine that heats the material to high temperatures and injects it into the mold under high pressure.

3. Assembly: After the cartridge shell is molded, it’s typically assembled with other components like a print head, ink reservoirs etc. The print head is responsible for spraying ink onto the page, while reservoirs hold ink used by the print head. Electronic components may also include sensors, microprocessors, and other components that help the printer communicate with the cartridge and control operations.

4. Filling: Once the cartridge has been assembled, it is typically filled with ink. This is done by injecting the ink into the ink reservoirs using a filling machine. The ink is usually supplied to the filling machine in large containers, and it’s typically mixed with other ingredients such as solvents and pigments to achieve desired properties.

5. Testing: After the cartridge has been filled, it’s typically tested to ensure proper functioning and it meets required quality standards. This also may involve testing print quality, checking for leaks or defects, and verifying that it’s compatible with a specific printer.

6. Packaging: Once the cartridge has been tested and approved, it is typically packaged for shipping. This may also involve sealing cartridges and labeling them with product information, like the model number etc.

Branded Ink Costs – Calls to Investigate

Featured

Some printers can use up a lot of ink, which can have an effect on your wallet. Buying Original Branded Ink Products can be quite costly. However, a cheaper alternative to these big, recognisable brands are third-party printer ink brands.

Branded Inks vs Third Party Inks

A survey by Which? Magazine asked more than 9,000 inkjet and laser printer owners about their experiences with printer ink brands – both Original brands and third-party brands. Similarly to previous statistics, third-party brands came out on top for value with both ink and toner cartridges, while the big brands were ranked at the bottom of the results. The third-party brands with the highest consumer score was 87%. The bottom four brands out of the 20 brands to choose from in the survey – in descending order – were Brother (66%), Canon (62%), Epson (58%) and HP with the lowest score (56%). These huge brands offer amazing printing quality, however, the high prices of these Branded Ink Products cause customers to rank bigger brands lower down and they feel like they’re not a value for money.

Ink Cartridge Head Non-OEM

Moreover, third-party printer inks are a good value and contrary to popular belief, won’t break your printer or be of a lesser value. Which? Magazine’s survey found that out of 3,000 Which? Members who use third-party inks, only 4% experienced compatibility problems and only 1% had leaky cartridges. Most third-party brands also offer guarantees if a cartridge doesn’t work. Some may even replace your printer in the unlikely situation that a cartridge causes irreversible damage.

Tank printers can be a good cost-effective solution for many. Tank printers contain built-in ink reservoirs which are filled with bottles instead of cartridges. Bottles are much cheaper and last longer than cartridges. Some tank printer models tested by Which? Cost less than £4 a year, whereas some cartridge printers can cost more than £100 a year!

Branded Ink Companies Under Pressure

Which? has called for action over pricey printer inks and an investigation into “dynamic security”, which especially puts HP under pressure. Some of HP’s printers prevent customers from using third-party inks, which are often blocked by HP’s ‘dynamic security’ (used to lock out better value supplies).

InknTonerUK offers both Original and Non-Original products. Here’s just one comparison of the same product with only 1 difference – one is Original and the other is a Non-Original Product. We encourage our customers to buy the best value product and take time to look around our site for the best offers for them and compare. Here’s the Original and Non-Original HP 304XL Ink Cartridges compared:

Epson’s Second Environmental Campaign!

Featured

For the second consecutive year, Epson is focusing on raising awareness about global warming through another, second Environmental Campaign. This year, the environmental campaign also focuses on the work of National Geographic Explorer and ecologist Professor Isla Myers-Smith, who has studied the impact of climate change on the Arctic tundra for almost 20 years.

Epson's Second Environmental Campaign focuses on the Arctic

Observations made by Professor Myers-Smith and her colleagues indicate plants and greenery are more frequent in the Arctic, where permafrost is decreasing. Additionally, the warm temperatures cause Arctic permafrost to disappear. This therefore releases CO2 (a greenhouse gas), which accelerates global warming and speeds up disappearance of permafrost in the Arctic. The growth of taller, denser plants, captures snow and warms the ground causing more release of carbon into the atmosphere!

Scientists predict the world’s permafrost will substantially decrease by 2100. A January 2022 study predicted the amount of carbon released by melting permafrost could be 624,000,000 tons per year!

Prof. Myers-Smith states that we can change statistics by doing things like saving energy, finding alternative ways to travel to work etc.

Arctic Snow Fox - Epson's Environmental Campaign to save the Arctic Tundra

“It is important for all of us to be aware of how our choices impact the environment in our own backyards and around the planet.”

Epson is determined to lowering impact on climate. Moreover, this campaign aims to encourage businesses and consumers to do the same and choose technology that reduces carbon footprint.

Blase Day with InknTonerUK!

Featured

Today, a strange event is taking place. Many people around the world are celebrating Blase Day, an annual event. How?

Blase Day releases negative emotions and opens up a door for people to feel displeasure with things they find unimpressive.

The name of this odd celebration originates from the French word ‘blase’. Someone described as ‘blase’ is difficult to impress and indifferent to things (usually because they have experienced them before. For example, they have already had many interesting and exciting life experiences). So a ‘blase’ person is difficult to impress and harder to please. The French word has been used to name this day because of the ties it has to the French who can be identified as quite ‘blase’ at times, since they have a very rich culture and are no longer often impressed by artwork or other aspects of culture. This makes this day very suitable for people who adopt this distinct mindset.

The Day comes from the French word 'blase'.

Being blase does not mean someone is unenthusiastic or rude, but rather being less expressive with emotions and not as dramatic.

Celebrating Blase Day

Celebrate today by being blase yourself! Today, you don’t need to fake enthusiasm in things you have no interest in. It’s a perfect way to complain about things you find unimpressive.

Blase Day 2022 at InknTonerUK!

Remembrance Day in 2022

Featured

104 years ago, World War I ended. The loss of life on both participating sides was greater than in any previous war in history and was not limited to soldiers. Furthermore, new weapons and inventions were used in ways that showed a new, darker side of humanity. Today, we remember and honour the lives people gave for our freedom, peace and stability in Europe through Remembrance Day.

The horrifying images in the Great War prompted nations around the world to create the League of Nations and avoid another devastating war in Europe and around the world. About 20 years later, the world entangled itself in another, more deadly war known as World War II. After discoveries of the inhumanity and mass genocide of different groups in extremist countries committed before, during and even after the war, the League of Nations ceased its operations and the United Nations (UN) began to maintain peace and stability in the world.

Remembrance Day This Year

Today, Europe faces war on its continent again. With the Russian invasion on Ukraine earlier this year, many people demand peace. Remembrance Day, an event to commemorate the people who lost their lives during one of the worst events in history and remind everyone that war must never return to Europe. This year, however, its Remembrance Day takes place while people give their lives in another deadly war.
