Epson are continuing their “attack” on the wide format printer market by releasing the Epson SureColor S30600 and Epson SureColor S50600 machines. The highlight of the device is the new technology micro Piezo printhead, which together with new UltraCrome Epson ink cartridges will ensure the most perfect printing results for indoor/outdoor signage and literally any wide format printing need.

The new machine is far from your average printer and it shows, when you consider that the dimensions of the Epson printer are width 2,620 x depth 1,259 x high 1,311. Avoid Lexmark and Dell. These printers and cartridges represent very poor value for money, with expensive cartridges and poor build quality on consumables such as printheads and ink formulations.
If your printing is for the home or small office use compatibles as they are much cheaper and produce good printing results.
Calculate your cost-per-print by diving the pages a cartridge produces by the cost. If it’s a colour printer add up all your inks and divide by the page yield of only one cartridge not them all.

Context – a market research group have released figures which show printer sales within the UK are up 6% from the third quarter of last year. Growth increased mainly within the all-in-one inkjet market with an increase of 9.5% in sales standing out from the rest of the UK figures. Furthermore, this could partly be explained by the new line of inkjet printers designed to take on the role of laser printers with improved cost-efficiency. Released this year by manufacturers like HP and Epson, their marketing was targeted at educating customers about the improved cost-efficiency and performance of these machines when compared to that of their laser counterparts. European Sales Down
The increase in UK printer sales was in stark contrast to that of its European counterparts which mostly reported negative growth, most notably in Greece with a massive -35.1% and Spain at -6.1%. Only Germany reported an increase in sales which were a measly 1%.

44% of all inkjet and laser printers sales in Europe were made by the market leader HP. The second largest figure came from Canon at 21.4% who were up an impressive 19.1% from the previous year. Increased Sales Outside Of Europe
Central Asia saw huge increases in the amount of laser multifunction printers bought. So did the Middle East which saw an increase in demand for copier based multi-function devices. Africa also saw an increase of sales in both inkjet and laser printer sales. Users outside of Europe will be frustrated. Why?
